Anneaux Concentriques

'Anneaux Concentriques' is an installation exhibited here in the cellar of Atelier La Girafe, Les Marolles, Brussels. It is made with 3mm thick rattan cane covered with sticky white paper. The hoops are connected with fishing line and the piece is lit by a 'lampe noir'. The hoops are strung together to create shapes which undulate. At the point where one shape is fat, convex, the one nearby will be slender, concave. There are 6 suspended pieces which gently spin. The largest piece is 1.5metres high and the smallest is 15cm high. Their difference in scale gives a sense of distance in the darkness as if one is moving through space with hoops orbiting about.
