Dancing Flames

'Dancing Flames' is in a private garden in Brussels, and was installed in February 2006. It consists of 6 pieces created with hand bent welded steel rods woven with fine copper and galvanized wire and willow. Arranged in pairs, the pieces graduate in height from 2 metres to 1.2 metres, the tallest at the front and the smallest at the back of the garden. Each piece leans towards another other suggesting an arch but not joining. In three pairs, they become closer towards the back where the two smallest nearly touch. They are designed to create a curved pathway in order to soften the rectangular shape of the garden. They could be seen either as suggesting an arch or breaking away from each other as each curves and tapers into a flame dancing away across the lawn.
