Circle Dance

'Circle Dance' was commissioned by the Milton Keynes Crafts Guild and funded by Southern Arts. Clare created it, assisted by blacksmith Tim Ward, for the portico of the C.B.X. Building in Milton Keynes at the Crafts Guild’s Summer Exhibition in 1997. It was then installed permanently in Campbell Park by the Grand Canal. Here, living willow rods were planted round the base of it and woven into the existing willow and steel rod form.

'Circle Dance' is 4 metres wide and consists of woven willow and steel rod planes that twist over to form 7 pointed arches. These are linked together to suggest a circular dance on the grass by the water. It can be entered through all the arches.

"The sculpture resembles a group of figures holding hands in a dance, moving so fast that they seem almost to merge into one another," wrote the Milton Keynes Public Arts Officer.

'Circle Dance' continues to be maintained by Campbell Park.
